Calci, its citadel and La Signoria, its charming hotel
Our hotel is located 4 km from the center of Calvi. Occupied since the Neolithic period, the site of Calvi was for a long time an important stronghold of Corsica. Under the Roman Empire, the city was home to no less than fourteen centuries and was in the 2nd century, according to a historian, the "most famous port on the island". A few centuries later, under Genoese rule, the strategic character of the city was affirmed by the construction of the Citadel. This magnificent fortress was the object of many covetousnesses and resisted many sieges, including the one led by Admiral Nelson in 1794. Considered today as the symbol of the city, its visit will leave you with many unforgettable memories. As you stroll through its cobbled streets, you will appreciate the superb views of the bay and the many monuments that it houses. Discover the Saint John the Baptist cathedral, built in the 17th century, the Saint Anthony oratory, classified as a historical monument, the former Governors' Palace and the house where, according to an unconfirmed legend, Christopher Columbus was born.
